What credit repair actually means
Your credit file is held by Australia's credit reporting bodies: Equifax, Experian and illion (now part of Experian). Lenders check it every time you apply for a home loan, car loan, credit card or even some phone plans. A single default or court judgment can mean an instant decline.
Credit repair is the process of checking every listing on your file and challenging the ones that should not be there. Under the Privacy Act 1988, a listing must be accurate, up to date and correctly made. If a lender skipped a required step, listed the wrong amount, or a listing has stayed longer than the law allows, you have the right to have it corrected.
How we help
- Free first call. We talk through what has happened and what you are trying to achieve, like a home loan or car finance.
- Full file review. With your consent, we obtain your reports from each bureau and check every default, judgment, repayment history entry and enquiry.
- Honest assessment. We tell you which listings have real grounds to challenge and which do not. If nothing can be done, we say so.
- Written Credit Quote. If you want us to act, you receive a written quote before anything is charged.
- Disputes and follow up. We gather evidence and lodge the correction request with the lender and the bureau, and escalate to AFCA where appropriate.
- Rebuild plan. Whatever the outcome, we give you practical steps to strengthen your score from here.
Listings that may be challenged
- Defaults where you did not receive the required notices before listing
- Defaults under $150, or listed before the debt was 60 days overdue
- Wrong amounts, duplicate listings or debts that belong to someone else
- Listings caused by identity theft or fraud
- Late payments recorded while you were in an agreed hardship arrangement
- Listings that should have expired, such as defaults older than five years
What credit repair cannot do
Nobody can legally remove a listing that is accurate and was made correctly. Be careful of anyone who promises guaranteed removal or a set number of points. A paid default is updated to show it has been paid, but it still stays on your file for the full period. Our job is to find genuine errors and help you recover, not to make promises we cannot keep.
