How much does credit repair cost?

Credit repair fees in Australia vary widely. Here is what is typical, what regulators have said, and how to protect yourself.

Typical costs

Credit repair pricing in Australia is not standardised. Some businesses charge an upfront fee, some charge per listing, and some charge only if a listing is removed. ASIC's review of the industry (Report 465) found upfront fees commonly ranging from about $495 to $1,095, with fees per successful removal of around $880 to $1,029. The Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW has reported that consumers it spoke with paid around $1,000 on average. Prices today can be higher, particularly for court judgments.

What regulators are watching

In 2025 ASIC announced a review of debt management and credit repair licensees. The Australian Government's review of the credit reporting framework has also recommended changes, including tighter rules on credit repair fees. Those recommendations are still being considered.

Questions to ask before you pay anyone

  1. Do you hold an Australian Credit Licence, and what is the number?
  2. Are you a member of AFCA?
  3. Will you give me a written quote of every fee before I commit?
  4. What exactly is wrong with my listing, and what evidence do you have?
  5. What happens to my money if the listing is not removed?

Be wary of anyone who guarantees removal, a set score increase, or pressures you to sign quickly.

Common Questions

Questions people ask us

Is credit repair worth paying for?

It can be, if there is a genuine error and you want someone to manage the evidence and follow up. If your listings are correct, no one can remove them, so paying would not help.

Are credit repair companies regulated?

Yes. Businesses that provide credit repair services generally need an Australian Credit Licence and must be AFCA members.
